Initial payment: The amount specified as an initial payment in order to establish a licensing contract for intellectual property rights.
Innovation manager: A person leading innovation processes, at PROINNOVA this role is the intermediary between the innovators at the University and external sectors providing guidance during the different stages of development of potentially innovative knowledge such as: analysis of the innovation grade, intellectual property protection strategies, detection and analysis of strategic partners, among others.
Innovation: Innovation based on new knowledge consists on using this knowledge to generate a productive, commercial or social success; through its incorporation to a process, product or service, new or existent.
Institutional Development Fund: corresponds to 15% of the income generated by projects done with the external sector, it was created as a solidarity resource to be assigned to initiatives that contribute to the academic development of the University of Costa Rica in academic activities.
Intellectual property: Intellectual property refers to the creations of the mind: inventions, literary and artistic work such as symbols, names and images used in commerce. It is divided in two areas: copyrights and related rights and industrial property.
Invention: All human intellect creations, can be applied in the industry, must meet the patentability conditions in the law. Could be a product, machine, tool or manufacturing procedure and will be protected by the invention patent.
Invention or work statement form: The initial form that PROINNOVA requests to authors or inventors so they can describe general aspects of the new product, method or service they wish to transfer to society. It must also include all participants and their contributions to the development of the potentially innovative knowledge.
