The Technology Transfer Office |Unidad de Gestión y Transferencia del Conocimiento para la Innovación| (PROINNOVA) handles innovative projects from the University of Costa Rica’s three main pillars (research, social action and teaching) and the six knowledge areas (arts and literature, social sciences, engineering, basic science, agriculture and food sciences and health), in a way which allows the results to have an innovative impact over the socio-productive sector. To that effect, we evaluate the potential of this knowledge, protect intellectual property and transfer them for profit or non-profit cooperating with vulnerable populations, companies or their organizations that might benefit from this.
It also provides advisory and training in creativity, competitive intelligence, innovation and intellectual property in order to have an impact over the College Community and external sectors.
PROINNOVA manages, protects and transfers knowledge for innovation generated by the UCR and also promotes, advices and provides training in creativity, innovation, competitive intelligence and intellectual property in order to impact external sectors.
To become an organization recognized by the University’s population as the proactive entity in the management of knowledge generated at the University, with a consolidated position in external sectors both at the national and international level.
The Technology Transfer Office [Unidad de Gestión y Transferencia del Conocimiento para la Innovación] (PROINNOVA) is a research support unit ascribed to the Research Vice-Rectory (VINV), whose objective is to promote innovation through the technological transfer of knowledge developed at or adapted by the University of Costa Rica (UCR) to the socio-productive sector.
It began in 1990 when the UCR created the Technological Transfer Unit. In 2005, the organization was reconfigured due to internal changes at the UCR and at the country level; which originated PROINNOVA through resolution R-1739-2005.
