Next Tuesday, February 26th, will take place the first virtual wood database of Costa Rica at the Auditorium of Lanamme, in the City of Research of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), at 2 o’clock in the afternoon.

With this platform, users will be able to know the native timber species of Costa Rica and their own characteristics. In addition, the database also exposes the uses that have been assigned to these species according to the technological studies that have been developed from the old Forest Products Laboratory (LPF-INII) of the UCR.

The project was initiated by Isabel Carpio Malavassi, a biologist specializing in wood anatomy, who led the LPF for more than 30 years. Carpio started working in the laboratory with just 20 years and has already published two books on wood in the country.

The virtual library can be accessed through the websites of the Institute of Research in Engineering (INII) of the Center for Dissemination and Information (CEDI), the museum+UCR page and through the bases of the Library, Documentation and Information System (Sibdi). This platform can receive up to 300 users simultaneously.

If you wish to attend the launching of this xiloteca, you must confirm your attendance with Yorleny Campos to the email, no later than February 22nd.
